The mounting fixture for the solar spot light was solid and I expect will last over time. When mounting the device it is best to attach the solar spot light then mark the spots for the screws and then detach the spotlight and attach the mount to the surface. Otherwise, you may find that the angle is affected and not best or desired. Good luck.

How does the spot with the solar panel attach to the base?

The solar panel is attached to the top of the fixture on the compatible Light (GBT8083). Therefore you do not need to worry about mounting the panel to a surface. Thank you for your inquiry!
