Solar Generators VS Gas Generators

Posted 6/24/22 | Filed under Solar Education | Comments (0)

Today we will be addressing one of the most common and heavily debated questions: Are Solar Generators superior to Gas Generators? Surprisingly enough, the answer is not as black and white as one might think. We will be going over the pros & cons of each type of power generator to help you decide which is best for your needs.

Upfront and Long-Term Costs

The first comparison we will be looking at is centered around cost.

Gas generators are superior to Solar Generators when comparing the initial out of pocket, however, with the cost of fuel skyrocketing, the long-term and even short-term use cost victory goes to Solar Generators.

Maintenance costs fall in favor of Solar as well. Since Solar generator systems have no moving parts or fuel to replenish, it’s an easy call to make.

Environmental Impact

I believe this goes without saying, however, it is certainly worth mentioning.

Solar produced energy is nearly 20 times more environmentally friendly than its gas counterpart. Therefore, an investment in a Green Energy backup system is an investment in your family’s future.

Location and Noise

One of my favorite features of Solar Generators are their ability to produce entirely silent energy.

This allows the user to maintain a calm homestead during rather unpleasant experiences such as power outages.

Gas Generators must be located outdoors when compared to indoor power stations, which can attract unwanted attention and create anxiety about the security of your system. The last thing anyone would want is an expensive item being stolen from your property.

Tax Incentives

Solar systems are eligible for potential tax credits (currently up to 26 percent of the cost of the system).

This includes the costs affiliated with purchasing solar panels, additional solar equipment such as inverters, wires, mounting hardware, batteries and even labor costs for installation/inspections and developer fees.

Unfortunately, gas generator systems offer no such tax rebate incentives. Need I say more?

Reliability

When it comes to essential preservation (food, shelter, medicine, etc.), nothing is more important than reliability. While Gas based power generation is reliable and can handle heavy power needs; it does have its short comings.

Gas Generators have moving parts which can fail or require maintenance/repair.

The ability to obtain gas, while historically consistent, can also be an issue due to raising costs, new environmental protection laws and even natural disaster supply chain disturbances. Solar does have a small struggle with reliability as well, however, it is only impacted by poor weather/cloud coverage and the moment the sun comes out, your power production will start once again.

Therefore, Solar energy takes the W in the category of reliability.

Renewable Energy

The main reason we even became a heavy hitter in the ecofriendly retail genre was to provide fantastic customer service, educational content and high-end consumer goods to folks who see the future in renewable energy.

As we all know, gas is a fossil fuel and the opposite of a renewable energy source. I’ll leave our readers with that.

Power Capabilities

The largest Pro when it comes to Gas Generators is their sheer level of power. They can output a huge amount of energy for as long as you have fuel.

However, this stands to reason, as you are actively burning a fossil fuel, therefore, you should have access to more energy while consuming said fuel source.

Because once the fuel is depleted, the power output drops to zero.

As long as you size your solar generator properly, the power capabilities of either type of unit should be adequate.

We can confidently say that between all the Pros and Cons of Solar and Gas, Solar does seem to have a clear advantage. As we move forward into a more environmentally friendly society, we truly believe that Solar and alternative energy generation will reign supreme. Just look how far this sector has come in such a short time. As always, we are just a phone call away (877-548-3387) and are happy to offer our expertise on all of your Power Generator needs!
