How to Prepare for an EMP Attack

Posted 3/17/23 | Filed under Emergency Preparedness | Comments (0)

If you have been paying attention as of late, the level of tension all across the planet is at an all time high. International disagreements and conflicts seem to be changing and growing each and every day. While we would like to remain optimistic on the state of these affairs, it always pays to be prepared.

What is an EMP?

An Electromagnetic Pulse, more commonly known as an EMP; is a swift burst of electromagnetic energy that can have a severe negative effect on metal objects. This event can be caused by natural occurrences (lighting, solar storms, solar flares), circuit shorts or by man-made devices designed with ill-intent. What Would Happen in the Event of Electromagnetic Warfare?

EMP weapons produce a pulse of energy that creates a powerful electromagnetic field capable of short-circuiting a wide range of electronic equipment. Most importantly this would impact computers, satellites, traffic lights, radar receivers, radios, and much more.

This electromagnetic energy travels at the speed of light; which would result in all vulnerable equipment in the detonation zone being affected simultaneously and instantly.

Based on how heavily we rely on computer technology, the fallout from an attack this like could be catastrophic. How to Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones:

1. Use EMP Protected Technology such as EMP Shield Devices and EMP Faraday Bags/Cages/Tents

Protective devices like our Faraday Bags and Cages are a great option for safeguarding electronics like Generators, Solar Panels, Smart Phone and Tablet Devices, Radios, Computers and much more. These carrying bags are not only great for EMP protection, but also work overtime protecting your sensitive information on a cyber security level.

For an entire Home, RV, Grid-tied Solar or even Radio option, an EMP Shield is the way to go. These smart devices protect against EMPs, Solar Flares and Lighting, installs in 10 minutes or less and protects against All Phases of an EMP (E1, E2, & E3)! 2. Emergency Preparedness Pack / Long Term Food Storage

One of the most important ways you can protect yourself and your loved ones is to have at the very least a small ration of Long Term / Freeze Dried Food and Water, paired with an Emergency Prep Pack with a few essential items.

Our Ready Wise Long-Term Food Supply options are tasty and affordable and last up to 25 years! Pair a case of food supplies with Sagan Aquabrick (for water storage) and you and the entire family are set!

If you really want to get serious, our Harvest Right Freeze Dryers will provide the same level of longevity (25 years) but allow the user to freeze dry anything they like, from left overs to medication. 3. Create an Emergency Plan

Having an emergency plan in place with your loved ones, especially as your family grows is crucial. Below are a few points from the Ready.Gov website that I believe is expertly crafted:

• How will I receive emergency alerts and warnings?

• What is my shelter plan?

• What is my evacuation route?

• What is my family/household communication plan?

• Do I need to update my emergency preparedness kit?

4. Avoid Going Outdoors

If an EMP attack does occur, the ramifications could be unparalleled in comparison to anything we have seen before. It could potentially be rather dangerous outside due to downed electrical cables, streetlight failures, plane system malfunctions and much more. 5. Rely Less on Electronics

Easier said than done, right? It’s less about overall independence from technology and more about having options.

• Keep a healthy stock of Candles and Light Sources that do not rely on electricity

• Ensure you have enough hand tools to perform basic maintenance

• Take inventory of everyday supplies and stock up (toothpaste, paper towel, toilet paper, feminine products, etc.)

• Consider propane, gas or wood based heat that can run on minimal electrical power

6. Invest in a Backup Power Generator

Our expertise is of course Solar, so naturally we do have an affinity for Solar and Wind based Power Solutions. While these units do cost more upfront than a typical gas or propane generator, they are typically more compact (Great for EMP Faraday Bag Storage options), entirely silent in use and can create power directly from the sun’s rays or wind.

However if Solar & Wind isn’t an option in your area, having a Gas or Propane based generator is also a great investment. We hope you found our information on potential EMP attacks educational and as always, we are just a phone call away (877-548-3387) and are happy to offer our expertise on all of your Emergency Preparedness needs!
